Russia, China and USA are the three world powers, combining atomic, Nuclear, and Army power. it's officially proven that those three countries by themselves can blow the world into hell, and pretty much any country. The Olympic victories speak to the population size, investment in athletics, will power and quality of training and a modium of cheating on birthdates (no comment). Much the same determination, criteria and investment that has gotten them nuclear warheads.

This has been this way for years. I stopped watching them a long time ago when it was nothing more than a competition between the Capitalist United States and the so-called Evil Empire Soviets Socialists and their east European communist bloc Nations. It always was nothing more than a political joke on everybody's side. It has always been closely associated with fraud and deciet. Can you imagine how many unfortunates in the world could be helped with the money they blow on this "My Country can beat up your Country" pseudo-cold war Saber Rattling compeition?
All the more impressive in the days of the AAU when U.S. athletes were forbidden any kind of financial or material assistance in their Olympic pursuit. Countries don't win Olympics, those athletes win competition and get medals.
Russia doesn't fare nearly as well as the U.S.S.R. did. China's athletics are not much more than a puppy farm. Under whose values would you prefer to compete: Mao's, Stalin's or Washington's?
