Depending on prevailing winds and air traffic, a flight from Sydney to Perth can take 5 hours....so that would be 10 days in Perth???

Yep but i can't think of any reason right now why i would travel to Perth.

You could compare it with flying from Copenhagen to Beijing or from Rome to Calcutta.
9 hours is nothing to me, personally. I'd say globally the western US is probably worse in some ways, though, in terms of isolation. Western Australia is probably less globally isolated too actually.

It's plenty. The 7 hours that it took to get to New york nearly killed me. My back was as stiff as hell.

And I don't know about you but americans would find that a long flight too.

9 hours to UK.
17 hours to Dubai.
13 hours to Tokyo.

versus

26 hours to UK
14 hours to Dubai
10 hours to Tokyo.

Not really. That's just a normal flight for any American that wants to travel to another country.
