That's why I recommended her to study Spanish to native-like fluency.
Both Portuguese and Spanish (and Galician, and Astur-Leonese, and Aragonese) are technically dialects of a continuum called Ibero-Romance, thus having all of them some degree of mutual intelligibility. Portuguese is somewhat difficult to be understood by native Spanish speakers because it is stress-timed, while Spanish and almost all other romance languages are syllable-timed. Moreover, like in English and unlike Spanish, there is not an exact correspondence between the sound and the letter in Portuguese.

Basically all you need is English - it's the global language. Chinese? The Chinese are learning English like crazy.

Learn Spanish only if your ultimate career plan is to work at a fast food drive-in counter in South Florida or California.

2) As you said, CEO's speak English. But that is not exclusively because they are Spanish speakers but a global thing

3) They do NOT prefer speaking English when doing business, they do so because there's no other choice (because you know...English language speakers aren't usually good at speaking foreign languages)

4) About the Chinese being passionately about learning English, that is true.
CEO's learn English not just to talk to native English speakers.
They can also use it to talk to Turkish, Taiwanese or any other CEO's.

Or if you want to have a carrier attending the general public of almost all of Latin America and Spain, since the overwhelming majority of latin americans is not fluent in English.

English is required in Chinese schools, but most people just learn to past the tests.
If you go to China, even college students cannot carry a conversation in English.

Sure buddy, keep telling yourself that. I've used my Spanish skills working with energy companies, international manufacturing, international education and the legal field.

But, usually uneducated people think like this....

That's why they are sending their kids young to live in the US and other English speaking countries. They are here starting at age 10 living with host families all over the country.

There are 1.3 billion Chinese. Probably 0.001% families do so.

Well, it may be a new tactic they are relying on. There's many of these kids here in CA, and many families hosting them to get extra money.
