Its been a while since I started a new thread. But here is the next one. For those of you that have lived in or visited both countries, which one do you think has the better cuisine, better nightlife, more interesting culture? Which one has friendlier women? And if you were forced to choose between Japan and Russia as a place to live, which one would you choose? All opinions and feedback are welcome
Difficult question. If you don't speak the language, you will always feel like an outsider in either country. If you don't look Asian, even more so in Japan. Some women will treat you well just because you are a foreigner, most however will avoid closer contact - also because you are a foreigner. It might change after a couple of years when your neighborhood knows you are there to stay and you speak the language.
But these two countries are so different from each other, I could not imagine moving to one of them if I considered moving to the other as well. It is like asking whether it is better to move to Germany or Nigeria. If you like the one, it is hard to like the other as they are very different.
Japan is much more sophisticated in every aspect apart from society maybe (there is still a lot of hierarchy). And more expensive apart from Moscow and the few other big Russian cities. Japan is expensive everywhere, and what you get for your money is sometimes ridiculous, for instance a miniature apartment in Tokyo at a price you pay for an entire house elsewhere.
I would choose Japan since I already live there. As for food, I don't know anything about Russian food, but I can live on Japanese food. With nightlife, Tokyo is fun and Moscow is pretty good from what I've read about. Culture, I really love the Japanese traditional culture. And with the women, both have a lot of hot girls, but I would say the Japanese are friendlier and down-to-earth, and love to meet American guys. In Russia, they may actually try to marry you. The other thing about Japan vs. Russia, the weather. Tokyo is cold enough for me in the winter, and it's climate is about the same as the Southeastern U.S., there's no way I would handle the weather in Russia.

I would chose Japan too, although Russia has some of the most beautiful women in the world, lol.
I love the blend of old and new in Japan. Hi-tech cities, and ancient wooden villages straight from the Edo period. It's also such a naturally beautiful country.
Cuisine: Japan
Nightlife: Probably tokyo/Osaka are better....it depends what you like I guess.
Culture: This is objective and you cant really answer this, again depends what you like. Japanese are still very old fasioned when it comes to culture and its still very strong. Japanese are very polite, at times shy but very clean and safe. Japan has the lowest crime rate in the developed world, and almost 0 crime against foreigners. Russia does have alot of problems with race crime nowadays...though if youre white i guess it wouldnt matter.
Friendlier women: It depends what you mean by "friendly" I would say japanese women are more polite and "nice" but friendly? Like outgoing? I would say russians are better than.
Here is a tourist video for Japan I highly reccomend you watch it. It's short.
This video focuses more on the cultural aspects and not the bright shiny advanced cities like Tokyo.
if you just want to have a lot of fun bon marche for some time in summer and like night clubs - then Russia (if you choose Moscow, it will be quite costy). If you are planning to stay for longer than a month - then Japan.
I have always had a good time in Moscow, but I speak the language pretty well. Have never been to Japan, wouldn't mind trying it.
This is a real apple to orange comparison, or maybe more like a sushi to caviar comparison - each is good in it's own way...
