Based on your travels or first hand accounts of travelers which city do you think is the most dangerous?
I would assume that Baghdad is pretty dangerous, and I've heard nothing but bad things about Nairobi...
First hand, the most dangerous city that I've ever been to is Washington, DC, and it's not even close. Of course, I don't seek out danger so my exposure to dangerous cities is pretty limited.
Juarez. I live 45 minutes north and its violent atmosphere is becoming something of a regional legend in Texas and New Mexico. At my university, they warn people every break and at the beginning of every year to either not go to Juarez at all, or, if one MUST go, to go with utmost caution.

These lists dont count bombings as homicides. Thats why New York City didnt have 4,000 homicides on the books in 2001.
If you take terrorism into account (which you have to as a traveler), or the targeting of Westerners, you would have to say Kabul, Bacgdad, etc.
New Orleans has 95 murders per 100,00 residents, staggering numbers. Marketplace bombs kill that many people in Baghdad every few months.
My personal experience: Anyplace in 1) Nigeria 2) Colombia and 3) Somolia, 4) Hillbrow (Downtown Johannessburg) just boils with danger, 5) Sau Paulo, 6) Abidjan, 7) Mexico City, 8) Harare, 9) Addis Ababa, 10) Panama City.
I would say for the US: Detroit and New Orleans and a little Baltimore. Most people think NYC it super dangerous w/ the bronx n all but its actually one of the safest cities on Earth if you think per capita. NYC has about 500 homicides each year but thats to 8,350,000 residents.
I think that Kinshasa in the Congo is way up there too! Even before the conflict in the Congo, foreigners were pulled out of their car and killed in broad daylight. The violent crime levels are astronomical even in the "safe" parts of town where the expatriates and government building are. It is now even worse since the departure of Mobutu despite the city being governmentally controlled. You will most likely not find statistics on this matter due to the limits of the Congolese government apparatus.
Mexico City is NOT that bad...When I was in Mexico everyone told me to be careful if I visit. Statistically, it was no worse than Chicago, especially since it got better in recent years (before conflict).
