Have you or anyone you've known ever been to Antarctica as a tourist? As a job as Mcmurdo or another research station? What was it like? Ive always been fascinated with visiting Antarctica.

If you are fascinated with it, Raytheon Polar Services hires for every season. I think they are hiring right now.

One of the Today Show hosts Ann Curry visited Antarctica and they were able to broadcast her coverage from there live!

We went to Antarctica, January 2008...
~10 day cruise to the Antarctic peninsula, up one side and
down the other. Went with the CEO's parents; trip of a
lifetime, imo. Very, very difficult to describe its size and
the overwhelming sights. We did 5 shore excursions on
Zodiacs, and basically spent nearly every waking moment
"on deck", looking.

It is an arduous trip: flew 13+ hrs from US to BA; spend a couple days in BA.
5 hr flight from BA south to Ushuaia, Argentina, aka El Fin Del Mundo. A night there,
then the boat sailed out Beagle Channel. It takes a full 24+ hrs to cross the dreaded
Drake Passage, and then it motors into the edge of the Antarctic peninsula.

There are several boats that go; some bigger, better, one an ex-Russian ice breaker,
that gets right into the frozen bays, though that trip is ~$30Gs plus.

We did it on the MV Discovery, (actually the old Love Boat from the '70s), and while it is
very sea worthy, it was fairly spartan. This is not your neighbor's Caribbean "cruise"
Fabulous trip; if one has a chance, do it, imo!

Some pics from our trip, via Flickr...thanks for looking!
