if it wasn't for the bad weather most of the year, i would say scotland has a lot of fairly good beaches, when it is sunny, and you are on the beach in st. andrews, you could be mistaken for being in the south of france or spain! crap most of the year though lol

New Zealand has one of the longest coastlines, and beaches for most preferences, except tropical.

There was a joke about a guy who signed up for the Peace Corps, and said he wanted to be sent to a place with a beach. They told him they could send him to Chad, which is all beach, but there is no ocean.

Due to the post above my last post I was skipping cooler countries, but yes Denmark was quite high in "coastline per total land area." Other cool/cooler countries that were above Portugal on their list...

Estonia
Norway
Japan
New Zealand
United Kingdom
Iceland
South Korea
Canada
Ireland
North Korea

Greenland and the Faroe Islands were also high if you count them as countries.

When you say beach, these places come to mind:

Australia
Brazil
Philippines
Indonesia
Hawaii (I know it's not a country, but still haha)
Maldives
and almost all South Pacific and Caribbean countries (islands and archipelagos)

Regarding this thread. Pretty much ANY Carribbean or South Pacific Island is ideal.

For large countries, #1 would be BRAZIL in my book. Austrlia would be right up there as well.
Brazil has nearly 8.000 Kms of coast line that can be "used" every days of year.

Venezuela has the longest Caribbean coastline plus Margarita Island, Archipielago Morrocoy, and dozens of islands that are protected (untouched).

The irony is that some of Brazil's biggest cities are landlocked and away from the beach like Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Campinas, Goiania, etc.

According to "how i met your mother" (the TV series) Argentina would be a "beachy" country . If only they knew that most of the beach line is Argentina is componed with COLD beaches with a COLD ocean and most of them are located in the Patagonia!, LOL! Nothing "beachy" about that.

It was in the episode that Robin (one of the main characters) decided to go to Argentina to "explore herself" and they show her in a place like the Bahamas surrounded by people dressed as hawaians that didnt look like argentinians at all (they look more like people from the caribean) and she came back with a supposedly argentinian boyfriend played by Enrique Iglesias (who is Spanish!) that acted, talked and looked nothing like and argentinan, LOL! That was one of the most ignorants portraits of any culture i ve ever seen on TV -

Sorry about the optopicness , but this thread question just remind me of this episode and i had to comment.
