Not countries but these below are my favourite flags in terms of esthetics :

And some regional ones like :

Breton Flag :

Quebec Flag :

United Nations flag:

Welsh flag :

Yorkshire Flag :

I am never keen on the plain bands of colour such as the French flag ( my own flag which I find boring and bland in the extreme) , German, Belgian etc...

Is it Uganda that has a chicken on their flag? That one is who I'll vote for.

Now two flags for nonextant bodies that I think are pretty snazzy. The old CSA battle flag is pretty sweet looking. Its square. It has a cross shaped like an X on it. It has stars. The red and blue they used were really great shades that offset each other. Its both complex and simple. Also Germany had a colony called Kamerun I think (I guess this is modern day Cameroon). There was a proposed flag for it that had an elephant head on a field of red. That one was really tight.

I like a few. Among them are: Bhutan, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Nepal, and Papua New Guinea. Among comparatively simple designs I kind of like the Czechs. Uganda does seem to be the one with the chicken.

Geographic Index by Country

The flags of Indonesia and Monaco look almost identical or at least I can't tell much difference.

Many many good looking flags there. My own personal preference- the Union Jack. Don't know if I would find it so compelling if it did not represent the country it does. Hmm.

Good thread!

Mooseketeer did mention that. But on that tangent France does have some interesting regional flags.
