Third vote for fawning but sycophantic works too. In what context are you using this word?

Hahaha - thank the lord - someone either has a great vocab or actually knows how to / where to find a thesaurus (they're online too "nowadays"!)

Combination of both, actually. In this case, I did Google Thesaurus and copied the synonyms that might apply.

It would be nice if the OP could get back to us all and let us know if anyone had the word s/he was looking for.

Thank you everyone, these words are all helpful.

It's personal, but I met someone a month ago, and we got closer last weekend and the last couple days I worry I've been too "fawning" or "cloying." So sweet that it's too much. Hoping he doesn't suspect me of being a "sycophant" because that is not my intention at all. Now that he knows how I feel, I'm respecting his time & space to sort out his feelings

Well, I read your entire post before you edited out the business about all the texts and compliments. Not only have you been fawning and cloying, but the word desperate comes to mind.

The word "sycophant" rarely applies in dating relationships. It's more often used for employees who suck up to their bosses.

Regardless, it's good that you are backing off. I think you may have already ruined your chances. Next time be more reserved until you are sure the feelings are mutual.

Then I would go with fawning.
