I like a good mystery. Sir Author Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, or Michael Connelly write some decent stories.

Your themes should be things that concern you. You write what you know and what you have experienced.

You can write about your childhood, your grandparents' stories, your first job, your first romance.

I think you will discover themes as you write.

What are your writing goals?

If you intend to write fiction, there aren't a lot of basic themes. The ones that exist are ancient and go back as far as humans have told stories to each other after hunting wooly mammoths.

In fiction writing, there is always a story arc. There is a protagonist and an antagonist. The protagonist begins, undergoes a change, and ends a changed person in some way. The antagonist can be another human, a bunch of people, the forces of nature, or any creature that is oppositional to the protagonist.

The situation determines the theme. The story arc does not need to be large or dramatic. Neither do the themes.

Non-fiction is usually quite specific to its subject. The subject determines the themes.

Poetry is its own thing, as is song writing. Both tend to share fiction's themes.

Figure out what you want to accomplish, tell us what it is in general terms, and possibly, you'll get some help or advice.

The most basic advice I can give is the human condition doesn't change, so neither do the themes that portray and describe the human condition. Everything else only sets the stage for the actors.
