I would think that feminizations of masculine names--like Josephine and Roberta--would persist for at least 30 years past the popularity of the male name, as proud daddies name their children after themselves.

I knew a couple named Jack and Camilla who named their baby boy after themselves; Jackilla.
Proof that parents don't always pay attention to trends. Or basic good sense.

Let's just say if my name were Richard, I would not use the nickname.

I have noticed over the years that Dick and Peter are more common in the UK than the US. Could be that those names aren't the same slang over there?

Default untrendy names

These names were perfectly fine until recently. I still like them, though. As a baby boomer, I know plenty of Karens, and they are all very nice.

Brandon, Chad, Felicia, Karen, Stacy.

And as a Barbie doll collector, I own three different dolls with this name: Stacey (Barbie's British friend); Stacie (Barbie's cousin Jazzie's friend); and Stacie (Barbie's younger sister, also known as Tutti).

Oh, Brandon is a good one! Very new to the negative connotation list.

But what negative connotation does Stacy have?

Default stacy

Apparently incels call the popular guys with many dates as "Chad" and the pretty girls who ignore them as "Stacy." But why those names, I don't know.
