20 minutes. Most of the road is brand new, 4 lanes with a turning lane in the middle. It is one of the nicest roads in Wyoming. I am not at all biased because my son-in-law is the engineer in charge of this project that has gone on the past couple of years

A few months ago, we got back to my car after coming out of WalMart. My sister started to enter the car and realized she had dropped her iPhone when she got out of the car. It was still there - an hour later - right where she left it.

We came close to moving to Worland in 2009. I'd vote against Worland based on scenery and access to anything larger when needed. I'm not saying the people aren't hard-working, honest, and trustworthy. However, towns with those qualities can be found in nearly all of the 50 states.
I also live in the "pretentious" town of Cody. That is absurd!!!! I have lived in 5 different Wyoming towns and although there is tons of positives about each one I have found Cody to be my favorite as far as everyday living goes. For us, it if about as close to "perfect" as you can get as far as living goes!

For what it's worth, I've never even met anybody here in Buffalo who can even spell "pretensious."

Including me...

I'm seriously thinking of moving to Sheridan next year. Seems like a nice town, plus it puts me closer to work (railroad), since I don't want to live in Greybull..lol
Wife is already a bit tired of the political BS in the horse community here in Cody... it's a who's who, and who knows this person or that.. just kinda rediculous, but that seems to be only in a small circle of horse people.

If you can hold the board, it's an outstanding move. At one time, out of the top 10 most senior engineers, 7 of them were in Sheridan just because it was so desirable. At that time, it was protected track from Sheridan to Gillette and back, Sheridan to Laurel and back, and then shared track between Sheridan and Foresythe. So as long as the track was clear, every trip put on lots of miles.

My wife and I went over the hill a couple of weeks ago to buy a horse trailer in Sheridan. Drove right through Dayton/Ranchester... real nice area, and all interstate to the depot from there. Right now I drive 57 miles from my house in Cody to Greybull... kinda tired of it, especially since I commuted when I lived in SoCal.
At least 30-40 mile commutes for the last 25 years.
I can hold the conductor extra board now and be the 5th guy in seniority with 30 slots on the board. I would have been able to hold as an engineer up until last week... better than I can in Greybull right now, plus I'm getting old and my knees are angry with me...lol

I'm partial to the area, but I'd say go for it. There are a lot of RR'ers living in Dayton and Ranchester. When a call comes in, it's 20-30 minutes and the depot's right on this end of town.

I'll keep working on her She likes the fact that there is a Taco Bell and Qdoba in town since we do seem to eat out a lot

Looking at horse properties on Realtor.com, seems to me that you do get a bit more for your $$ than in Cody.

The hardest part for my wife will be giving up the Cody Nite Rodeo. She started the Cowgirl Up Rodeo Drill Team a couple of years ago, and it has started blossoming. They performed at the Cody Nite Rodeo 5 nights a week this summer, doing the grand entry with American flags. Not sure what kind of horse activities there are in the Sheridan area, especially where a team could perform, if she were to start with new local members from Sheridan.

I know there is a lot going on around here with horses, but not sure of what all it covers. There are several "indoor" arena's, and we have the biggest polo sporting in the country. Let me do some checking and maybe I can answer that for you.

Horse properties are out there, might take some digging on your part. There are several places to board a horse should you need to do that for a while.
