I'm planning on a several week long job scouting trip to Wyoming in the [very] near future focusing at first on Sheridan. An expanded search would likely keep me within the the NW quarter of the state.

Since I've been working out of the country for a while I now have no telephone. Because there is still a possibility that I may not stay in the US I don't want to shell out for a fancy unit. I'm thinking of a WalMart Tracfone. Because I want a permanent number with a Wyoming area code I will wait until I am in Wyoming to buy it.

Question is - What to buy? My job will likely include some traveling ithin the State. Also I will want to upgrade as soon as I know that I will be staying. Can I just transfer the SIM card so that my number will not change?

I have been following this site daily for almost a year. It is a fantastic resource.

Alltel and Verizon are your best bets for Wyoming. I've had both and currently use Verizon.

I live out by Ranchester (15 miles out of Sheridan) and I use Verizon. My next door neighbor uses Altel. Both work great here. But when we go up to Dayton (5 miles West) she's always asking me for my phone because she doesn't have signal. I'd recommend Verizon. Wally World carries Verizon track phones.

However, I have no idea about keeping your number off the track phone should you eventually go with a regular cell phone.
