Guys,

Still headed over there in late August (dispite fuel $'s) to Powell. Planned on heaing N. via Frannie to hit I-90 back home, but buddy at work says should double back to Cody & go over Beartooth down into Red Lodge to hit 90.

Could Beartooth be problematic for me late August?

I'm sure they can get a little snow any day of the year over that pass, but it would be rare to have problems in August. It is a beautiful drive!

It is definitely a "must see"!!! There will still be snow way at the top, but alongside the road. You may even see people skiing down a steep slope (not a ski area, just beside the road) if you're lucky!

I don't think the Beartooth Highway usually opens up until late May. I'd check it at your latest opportunity before your trip, but it would be extremely iffy for May 15. I believe the snowpack in that region is a deeper than normal too, so that doesn't increase your chances.

Only thing you'll encounter is the rare rainshower and the bikes from Sturgis
