We have reached 146 of normal. Ties for the highest we have had ( I think). Still getting snow in our yard daily. The river is already running high and it has barely started melting.

They are still feeding the elk. My husbands horn hunting trip may not be to0 productive, not to mention hard slogging. The forest road past us is usually getting clear by now, not so this year.

Last time I checked, we were at 256% of 30 year average for total snowpack (moisture) level in the Bearlodge.

According to the latest talley's from NOAA, as of April 4, 2011. The Snow/Water equivalent percent of average:

Wind River Basin 102%
Shoshone River Basin 111%
Bighorn River Basin 112%
Tongue River Basin 106%
Powder River Basin 115%
Lower Yellowstone River Basin 108%

Those are the percentages, but NOAA doesn't mention the time period used for "Average".

ElkHunter, what areas to those basins include? The mountains where the snowpack is or just the lower basins themselves? I've been noticing all winter that most of the snowmobiling and skiing areas around the state have pretty impressive bases this year and have been a little concerned about spring runoff.

I would imagine the basin includes what major flows there are into it. But the newsletter doesn't describe or map it out.

Like you, I've noticed a lot more snow up on top. However, keep in mind that on a normal year, we have snow, melt, snow again, melt again. This year, it snowed and stayed. Same with your area and mine. We didn't really get any more snow then normal, we just didn't have the melting periods in betweent to clean it up.
