Does anyone know if any of the lakes/resevoirs are open water in the Bighorns? I am itchin' to get the canoe out for a paddle. What about campgrounds, are any open? Wouldn't mind camping up there either...
I was thinking about Red Grade or 14 but I wouldn't be opposed to going up outside of Buffalo either.

Come on already it's June! Hahaha, thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,
I haven't been over the 14 side for about a month, so am sure what is open up there (remember the road is closed-14, but 14A is open). I did go over the Buffalo to Tensleep route on Sunday and Meadowlark Lake is wide open. There was a guy with a little boat there. Still snow in places right down to the water, but no ice.

I am gonna give it a shot. I'll let you all know if I end up sledding in my canoe instead, hahaha.

Well, let us know what you find. I'm itching to get up there myself but have been holding off due to reports that campgrounds weren't open.

When I was at Tie Hack last summer there seemed to be quite a few canoes on the lake. I caught a few rainbows and brookies from shore with nymphs.

Some spots on 14 are open. The road going North from Bear Lodge is open as of yesterday. Sibley was iced over with some open water on the 14th. I've been watching temps and I don't see it really being any better yet.

Having said that, I got a call from NOAA today and they said the temps are rising up on top and they told me of possible flooding in my area down below. Whether or not Sibley is open to the shores or not, is unknown.

Sibley is completely open no ice.........you really don't see much snow until you get past Bear Lodge.

Great info. Now, I'll wait 30 days and pack my tent up there. hahahaha I got a horse and a dog that both love to camp. And the big plus is, they don't like coffee in the morning. haha

So yeah, I went up and stayed at Sibley for 3 days. No ice and just a few small snow patches. The weather was great-really warm and only 2 extremely brief rain showers. As of last weekend Sibley was the only lake campground open on 14. North Tounge and Ranger Creek were open too and I am pretty sure the Ranger I talked to told me that everything over the hill from Buffalo was open too. I caught a few little cutthroats in the lake but nothing over 8".

Going up Redgrade this weekend...
