Lee Snider, WELL SAID. I lived in Wyoming for over 30 years and foolishly left it in 2005. I worked in the oilpatch. I had a job in the good times and the bad time. I am counting the days I can move back. I always wanted to post what you said maybe alittle stronger point on some things. But I got my mouth slapped by the moderator over posts on how Tennessee sucks, and almost lost my posting ability. People are moving into here just as bad as wyoming and bringing their ways with them. I have family in casper and friends all over the state of wyoming. I hate to see what is happening to it, also. I hope it is not too screwed up when I get back in just over 5 1/2 years, when the house is paid for here and I sell my business. UNLESS, I get to sell the whole shebang to somebody before, at a profit of course. Or when the energy bust is on in wyoming again. And the people flee in droves like in 1982. I remember several thousand houses in casper sitting vacant. People just moved in the middle of the night, BACK HOME.

Cowboy, the Uinta Mountains are 25 miles south of Evanston. They try to keep the loop open in winter that runs thru and down to Heber, Utah. Plenty of snowmobiling & 4-wheeling spots. Evanston itself isn't so pretty but you can see the Uinta peaks from many places. Park City, UT is east on I-80 and they had many of the winter olympic events there. The Salt River range is about 125 miles north and they lead to the Grayback, the Tetons, the Absarokas and more. Depends on how able and willing you are to travel. In Evanston, you're at abt. 6800 ft. Trout, whitefish and in a couple of spots, kokanee salmon. Fishing good ... but nothing near Alaska. Hunting is pretty good - deer, elk, moose, antelope - have to draw for the good areas though.

Default Plumbers Needed?

Hi Guys

My Name is Brad Cowley. I had been considering moving from my home town of Tarboro, NC. I am employed part time at the local Sheriff's Office and Own a small plumbing business "Cowley's Plumbing". I thought that perhaps Wyoming would be a nice place to try to start a new life. I am 30 yrs of age I am married, my wife is 23 and have two children 3 YOA and 1 YOA. I was wondering if some one could shed some light on Big Horn County as far as Economics and Real Estate Prices. Can anyone there help? Please, send an E-mail or just reply.

Hey Lee -

You probably know a bunch of these guys. My brother is in the black & white checkered shirt.

At the risk of sending more people to Ten Sleep , I thought this was a pretty good illustration of your "Wyoming is what America was" comment.

I am trying to relocate I was wondering, when is the best time of year to try to plan a move in Wyoming? I know that the weather needs to cooperate when trying to move in and make repairs if needed. When does the cold weather and snow usually taper off to make travel a little safer?

Wyoming is what America was! This is good and bad. I was born and raised in Wyoming and I have been watching the swarms of out-of-starters coming in and I must say I don't like it. It's not that they are bad people it's that they bring with them a set of values that are different and more often than not, we are expected to conform to them.

The area I live in is being populated by very wealthy people who are looking to retire in a beautiful place and their only contribution is money. While money is nice, what this area needs are families who are willing to work (and I mean hard physical labor).

Year around life here is hard work. The summers are heavenly and the winters are quiet and bitter cold. The people are honest and cash poor. Everybody works together to raise our families. People are expected to work hard and not whine!

So, if you are thinking of living year around here, bring your work boots and get busy. If you are thinking of just coming here and backpacking and whining about ranchers stay home.

Sounds like my area in NM. I'm in the southern most part of the Rocky Mtns. The number of folks moving here and then trying to change things to the way they were back "home" is amazing.
I can't count the number of times I have been in a conversation that ended with me telling someone that if it was so great back home then they should head that way as that's NOT the way we do it here LOL

June? May can be nice but it can also be muddy and get a good dumping or two of snow. Of course by June you have daily thunderstorms .... But it's been many years since I've lived in WYO so wait 'till you hear from the old salts.

Regarding LEOs, I don't believe my parents' town in Washakie Country even has one any more. It gets a little Agro out there at times....

Also suggest worland. I've lived there twice and loved that clean little town. The people are friendly, the fishing, hunting, hikeing opportunities are endless. mts are a short drive and thermopolis not far either. Cody is also close and a lot to look at town just below yellowstone park. Don't think the energy boom has got to worland yet so might be the place to go to find your little dream town?
