I was looking around in Thermoplois with the street view on Google Maps and came across a building on the corner of Broadway St and S 5th St. The Four Winds Trading Post (509 Broadway) is on the ground floor and I noticed along the top of the building are swastika's. They are in the masonry formed with different color bricks. I was wondering if anyone from Thermopolis has any history on this building.

While I haven't seen the building you are referring to ...

I've seen more than one person mis-identify the historical SW Native Indian pattern, which is an ancient decorative pattern and is reversed from the German swastika pattern ...

So it may be worth your time to be sure that you're seeing the emblem that you think you're seeing before you take this in a manner in which it wasn't intended ....

It's definitely the swastika and I didn't think it had anything to do with the Nazi Party but you never know. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 there were Nazi organizations in America. They had summer camps in Long Island and even held a convention in Madison Sqaure Garden. Also if I'm not mistaken the swastika originated in ancient India and had something to do with Hinduism or Buddhism. I was just curious if anyone knew why they built it into this building. I'm sure it must be conversation piece for people from Thermopolis.

The swastika has been used in many cultures for centuries. It was simply adopted as a symbol by the Nazi Party.

During these tough-time$ 'Andreens' can be a great place for a young, newly-wed family to buy slightly-used furniture, tv's and (sometimes) kitchen appliances. I always stop in there to see what's available. Nice couple that runs it. Very friendly. Interesting antiques too...
