Hello everyone,
I was looking for a place to go shooting in or around gillette. I see there is a gun range but it looks like on their website that you have to pay $33 for a month! Does anyone know if they offer daily rates? I dont get alot of time to go shoot and dont think i'll get $33 worth for a month. Is there anywhere else people go to shoot out in the sticks or another range?
Thanks,
Chris

I assume you're talking about dues to the Gillette Gun Club. According to their website, annual dues are $33 but not prorated, so it's $33 through August, regardless of whether you join in September (for 12 months), August (for one month) or March (for 6 months). If you join now, it would amount to $5.50 for each month, but you'd have to pay the $33 up front. At least that's how I read it.

I think some go out past Sleep Hollow. I don't know much about it but remember reading something in the newspaper, and I've seen a few people out there with guns as I've driven by on Union Chapel Road.

Otherwise I think you can shoot on any BLM land as long as you do it responsibly. ElkHunter?

T&T Guns and Ammo (10 miles east of town) has a range, but I imagine it's for their customers.

I don't know the area that well, but wouldn't there be a number of state school sections out that way that would be accessible?

As long as you can access those lands either through public roads or through private property with the owner's permission for access, you can legally set up a target range and plink away. Of course, you are responsible for doing so in a safe manner; ie, proper backstop and a location where you won't have others coming through inadvertently.

Even though somebody may have a leasehold upon such land, it is still public lands and useable for other public purposes. As always, it's prudent and responsbile to pick up your brass or hulls, target remnants, and leave the site as clean as when you found it.

Perhaps one of the sporting goods stores in Gillette will be able to direct you to such a spot on these, or other, public lands.
