Since you all enjoyed the last Careerbliss article that I posted so much, I thought I'd share another one with you.

Jackson is number 18 on the list of happiest cities to work in.

Quote:
Happiest and Unhappiest Cities for Work in 2012 | CareerBliss.com

Looking to make a big career move in 2012? Then consider CareerBliss’ annual list of Happiest and Unhappiest Cities for Work. Thousands of employees in the happiest cities say they’re most satisfied with the people they work with, the way they work and the work that they do, while employees in the unhappiest cities want to see better growth opportunities, compensation and company culture. Did your city make our list?
I have to admit Jackson would be a pretty nice place to live if you could afford it.

Hmm, interesting. It is a nice place, but I never figured it would be 18th for happiest. That's great news!

Look at it this way... if you're affluent enough to live in Jackson, you've got to be generally pretty happy.

The methodology on this listing is just as flawed as the first post ....

really, some of the cities that have made this top 50 list are some of the biggest sh*tholes of places to be in the USA these days due to so many factors ... bankrupt, decaying, high unemployment rates, crime, corrupt city halls ....

While a lot of cities that, IMO, would be far more desirable places to live didn't get a mention at all.

It's almost insulting to see a place like Miami at the top of the list and places like Fort Collins not even make it at all, let alone a number of the smaller cities in Wyoming.

I've spent enough time in Miami (on business trips) where we were staying in "nice areas" where the motels were all bar'ed up and the lobby was a secure facility that closed up at 6PM sharp. We were cautioned to never leave the area singly, especially after dark. Our local corporate people made arrangements for all of our meetings/conferences and transportation to/from each. As well, we were transported to restaurants for business dinners in the evening and not only did our corporate people make sure that we were transported door-to-door by contracted limo services, but the restaurant owners would not let us venture out of the restaurants until they had verified that our transportation was on their doorstep so that we didn't even have to cross their parking lots unescorted.

FWIW, I've had the same experience in Columbus, OH ... and my friends in Sacramento don't have a better outlook of much of their city. Friends in Baltimore don't paint a glowing reference for that place, either ... and they earn mid-to-high 6-figure incomes in their practices, enough disposable income that they spend as much of their time as possible away from the city in resorts or coming to CO or WY for skiing or summer outdoor recreation.

I'm equally shocked that Memphis made the list. Sure, the cost of living is low, but you have to live there to enjoy that perk. It's definitely not worth the trade-off!
