We are considering a move. Currently in Texas and are looking in the Rock Springs area. Is Haliburton a good company and is the pay good? What about benefits? Heard about a service operator for coiling? Any body have info about that job? and the details of? How are the schools?
Any and all info would be great.

I was hoping someone would answer your post that knows more than me, however, from what I've heard from a couple of friends, Halliburton can be a good company to work for. They seem to compare to Schlumberger, who is also in the area. From what I've been told, pay tends to start on the lower end of things, however, both companies are supposedly good at bumping your pay up if you deserve it. Of course, you also have people who don't like the company that say the opposite. The overtime people are working right now will really raise those paychecks also.

I don't know if Halliburton is offering relocation or anything else, but Schlumberger is. Their relocation package is pretty good. (My husband has applied and waiting on the offer) They even offer bonuses in the package that will raise your yearly pay.

Rock Springs: We're looking into other towns to move to so I have not researched Rock Springs a whole lot so I can't tell you anything about the schools there. My friend says she has been happy with the schools though in Green River, which is only about 20-30 minutes away. Schools in Wyoming are doing pretty good financially due the the big energy boom which helps.

Housing is a problem there. With all the oil field people coming in, housing is hard to come by. Many people are living in trailer parks and RV parks. If you find a house to rent, don't think too long about it, you might lose it! My friend did that, she and her husband went home to talk about it, called the people less than an hour later, and the house was taken already.

If you're interested in more info about particular jobs, check out oilcareers . com . There is a quite busy forum there with people that have been in the business.

Good luck!

What kind of info are you looking for? Could you be more specific? I'm sure you'll get some answers but we're not sure what the questions are. Thanks.

Robert, I graduated from Green River High School , got married ,moved to Rock Springs, and lived there 25 years. Right now they are in a boom so, lots of people moving in from all over. It is a real melting pot, 56 nationalities. Lots of money there right now. Much is being invested in the town, they have good schools, my kids and my brothers kids did very well. There is a world class recreation center, parks, stores. The best part is being able to drive a few miles and being totally alone on BLM lands to hunt and camp.
The worst part is that many of the folks who follow booms can be trouble. You just have to be aware, pick your friends carefully, and you will be fine.
I have a couple of good freinds who work for Halliberton and they work alot so be ready, they make tons of money so weigh it all out. The thing about it is ,once you get there you can see what other jobs are available and try something else if you don't like them. There are mines, power plants, fertilizer, oil and gas , there. If you can pee clean and are ready to work you will find lots of jobs. In fact I heard that some contractors are actually going door to door offering people work. Wyomiles
