Just curious about weather. Seems most of the hail storms i have read about are in the plains area of Wyoming. I know that Star Valley gets thunderstorms. Does SV get much Hail?
Just wondering if you need covered parking or garage for your vehicle at your home, if there is a lot of hail? Not much you can do when running around and you get into a hail storm.
Thanks

have had bad crop damage, and seen brush in the forest with stripped leaves and dead song birds from hail. I know out Osmond-Smoot way there was a hail storm this fall that caused some property damage, vehicle, roof and siding. Know a few that just cashed the insurance check and didn't do repairs.

Thanks Jody, EH. Looks like it might be Advisable to have older cars/trucks. My car will be seven years old about that time.

Half dozen dents. No big deal, if I was concerned I'd remove them myself. Wait for a hot day and get some dry ice. Place a one inch chunk of dry ice in the dent and wait about 10 seconds. It will pop, sending the chunk of ice flying. The dry ice starts shrinking the metal and the dent will pop out.

Years ago, my dad had a new Chevy pickup that was totaled by hail. Insurance pages him off. I went to work on the truck. We had been in it, down by Midland SD and got caught in the storm. Busted out every window, including wing windows. Replaced all the windows and then went to work with dry ice. I got every dent out but 4. Those 4 were on ridges so couldn't do anything with them. But u got out all the rest. Truck was a 1965, half ton.

That's pretty neat. Will remember for later on. I knew dry ice was good for a lot of different needs. No need to buy all this stuff they sell on TV now days (Dent Doctor and others) you hear about.
Your 1985 Ford was really well built, not like now days. Ford is starting to build there F150's with Aluminum bodies to get better gas mileage! Thinking of doing the same with he F250's and 350's, now. Not sure how that will work out? Thanks again for the tip EH. Always learn something new with every response.

Aluminum does very poorly in Hail. It is malleable.. it stretches, and will not pop back with the ice treatment.

I am planning to stick a 58 - 1960 Ford Cab on my next Dodge Cummins chassis when the Dodge cab is toast.

These early trucks had some good heavy metal! It is a very EASY swap (Wide and deep engine bay)

It should be good for another million mile truck. I don't think the recent Fords are heading in that direction (million miles). My Studebaker / WY rig with a Detroit Diesel had 3 mil miles. It was swell in WY winds and on Black Ice. (Low CoG). It saw me through many a hail storm and a few tornadoes near Alliance / Chadron / Valentine, NE

I am looking to pick up a older Ford F350 or Dodge 3500 for hauling and camping. If i can find the right truck, not too worn out.

Definitely stay older.. Ford or Dodge.

If you get a Dodge... get a 97 or 98 12v without a No 53 block casting. .... last of the low tech / low emission requirement, high output and best economy and reliability.

I see one 1997 4x4 CC CTD FS with only 437k miles... For $6700

I buy most my cream puffs from TX or AZ (retirement areas). It is worth a $100 flight and a couple days to drive home.
