weston county until 515 pm mdt...

At 434 pm mdt...national weather service doppler radar indicated a

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in excess of 60 miles per

into areas where water covers the road.

28-day average streamflow conditions on june 14th were 10-24 percent
below normal across the lower green river basin in sweetwater county...and
the upper bear river basin in lincoln county.

Fuels were classified as critical across sweetwater county...lower
elevations of natrona and johnson county and the southern big horn
mountains. Fire danger was classified as very high or extreme
across most of southern wyoming as of june 14th. Check with your
county officials for the latest burning restrictions.

Climate summary...

An el nino watch has been issued by the climate prediction center.
There is a 50 percent chance that el nino conditions will develop

Default Road closures

Earlier today, Hwy 16 between Moorecroft and the South Dakota State line, was closed due to a fire. The town of Osage was evacuated and remains closed. About 10:15 or so, they opened the road with an advisory that there is still smoke, proceed slowly, but under no circumstances stop. Keep going.

Once you ge to the South Dakota State Line, you are ok, but again, you will encounter smoke. There is a fire in South Dakota, further South. The fire is located 5 miles outside of Edgemont so on Wyoming 85, do not enter South Dakota from Mule Creek Junction. They have been opening, and then closing, then opening, then closing.

Today is supposed to be a record high temp in a lot of areas of Wyoming. Believe me, setting in a stopped car when it is 105 degrees outside is not my idea of fun. Drive safe and drive cautious, there are a lot of fires going right now.

Yesterday, we had 3 thunderstorms move through my area in about an hour and a half. These three storms produced massive ammounts of lightnight and very little rain. As a weather spotter, I have to report the weather, amount of moisture, etc and I have some really good equipment to do that with. The temp was 92 and the humidity was 12% and we only got .06 inces of rain. With the massive lightning, we were a tinder box looking for a spark. Lukily, we faired pretty well. There were a couple ranches nearby that had cloud to ground lightning and the hands were able to take care of it in just a few minutes. But had it been unattended, it could have been a bad situation.
