Many people do not realize is that states like Wyoming and Montana have to accept you in order for you to live successfully within their borders.

Looking into moving to either one of these two states is an extremely involved process due to many things one being isolation and extremely brutal winters.

It's no fault of people not to understand and fully comprehend what isolation combined with extremely intense cold is like until they experience it first hand.

I moved from Denver to Helena Montana in October of 1994.
It was already dropping to 0F overnight that fall.

I lived and thrived for the next fourteen winters there not because I accepted it but because my environment accepted me.
You will understand what I'm speaking of if you move to WY.

I saw hundreds of people move to to Helena only to leave a year or two later.
It was not a fit for them.
They did not possess a symbiotic relationship with the environment they moved to.

They simply could not wrap their minds around the fact that culturally, weather wise and geographically they were in a place as foreign to them as if they had moved to the country of Estonia from Indiana.

Do yourself a favor if you can; pick a place in Wyoming and move there in December not July.
You will quickly realize if you have made the right choice.

Why Wyoming?

OK CybeSlydr, here ya go. This is a list I keep updating and post occasionally for folks with your question. The regulars have seen it several times but is still seems to get a positive response. And for good measure I've added why I like my chosen county/town.

Why Wyoming?
No State income tax
No corporate income tax
No Inventory Tax
No Estate Tax
#1 on the “Best State Tax Climate Index” – The Tax Foundation, 2012
#1 Best Place to Build a Nest Egg – US News & World Report, July 2010
Best run State in the US - 24/7 Wall Street, Oct 4, 2010
No vehicle inspections
Economy based on extraction of coal, gas & oil - always in demand
The extraction industries, not property taxes, pay for most of the school system
Least densely populated State in the Union
Free carry state; no permit required to carry concealed
Strong women. Wyoming is known as the “Equality State”. First state to elect a woman as governor.
Republicans have held the State Senate since 1936 & the State Legislature since 1964
Haven’t voted for a Democrat for president since 1964
Wyoming gave our current president a lower percentage of the vote than any other state.
Wyoming is the only state without a "hate crime" law. You assault someone and we will swing you off. We don’t care what your motive was.
Wyoming has one of the lowest crime rates of the states but an average incarceration rate. That means long prison sentences.
Yellowstone
Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats, Black Bear, Grizzly Bear, Mountain Lion, Moose, Pronghorn Antelope, Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Black Deer plus all of the typical little creatures
Hunting, Fishing & Trapping Galore
No closed season on predators, including liberals
The Grand Slam of Cutthroat Trout [4 species]
You don’t have to hide your red neck; on the other hand it’s not necessary to have one
You’ll be the only person in the State that doesn’t own a horse – at first
Longmire & Pickett [Look’em up!]
Rodeo!!

Why Sheridan County, Wyoming?

This is all public information. I compiled the list. It began as an explanation to my family and friends back in Maine why I moved to Wyoming.

I don't think that you need my permission to reprint it but regardless, you [and everyone else] has it.
