I am currently from Michigan . I would like to move the family to Gillette. I am a heavy equipment operator/night forman in a metal scrap yard. My wife is a general manager of a Subway. I am wondering if there are jobs like that, that would be available to us when we move there? And also how hard is it to find a 2 bedroom house for rent that would allow dogs around the price range of $500 to $1000?

I don't think you'd have a problem finding work. I do think you'll have a problem finding an affordable place to live. All I could find for rent was a 3 bedroom house for $1300 and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to get it. I'm in Buffalo, 1hr west of Gillette and the housing problem is the same here as there. Do a search on this forum and you'll find plenty of discussion about it.

There are plenty of homes on the market for sale...they're just being sold by some starry-eyed owners with artificially inflated asking prices. Personally, I think it's all realtor-driven.

Well just browsing through the yellow pages for Campbell, Crook and Weston counties there are 3 recycling centers around there. Only one is in Gillette...Pacific Steel & Recycling. 1-800-788-2727 or 307-686-2764. Of the other two, one is in Rapid City, SD and the other is in Billings, MT.

Gillette is a boom/bust town. Right now, due to methane gas, electrical plant construction and coal production, it is booming. Housing is very expensive but if you can get a job at one of the mines, you can afford them. Housing is very much in demand which is why the prices are so high and the sales are so fast. It will be difficult to find a 3-bedroom house for under 200K. I'm not sure why you haven chosen Gillette but there are easier places to live than there. I know...I lived there for 9 years.

From what I've been reading there is a big Gillette/Michigan connection, everyone is bailing out of Michigan to get jobs in Gillette. But there are other places in Wyoming and the other nearby states with a high demand for workers.

Here's a link to the local newspaper classifieds: The News-Record -- Gillette, Wyoming (http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/classifieds/ - broken link)

The prices are not realtor driven. Its a supply and demand thing. The whole area is booming. Jobs wouls be no prob. rentals might be. Good luck. My son in law is from Michigan and has worked steady as a rousta bout and equip[ment operator. Welcome to Wyo
