All of this Wyoming talk is giving me a kick in the seat of my pants. I'm starting to look at the possibility of visiting Cody, what's the weather like in very late March to early April?

Late March is when it is starting to warm up. it is the time when we become one large mud pit. the frost is starting to come out of the ground and the days are becoming warmer.

Now, having said that, March can be some of the most turbulant and unpredictable weather that we have. Some of our worst snow storms tend to hit in late March or early April. But, about then the ground is warmer so the snow doesn't last long.

Unfortunately there is really no way of predicting just how it will be. Good luck.

Not uncommon to see a mix of winter hanging on and spring-like temps, so some days may be into the 60-70's F with overnight temps 20-30 degrees lower, followed by days of 30-40's F with overnight temps down into the sub freezing range. There could be snowstorms in these conditions, there could be some very balmy days. One should be prepared for any possible combination as they can change from day to day.

I remember a few years ago getting the worst of the winter in March, with a week when temps never got above zero, then a little warming spell of a few days and another week of sub-zero temps. March is still winter for the most part, and the majority of really bad snow storms seem to come in April. You just never know about March and April.

Several years ago I flew out of Gillette headed to Wichita in mid-April (back when I still had a small plane). I left in a hurry because I could see the storm clouds rolling in. The next couple days the whole town was closed down with drifts to the eaves everywhere. I returned a week later and there was hardly any snow, only photos to prove it to me. I don't recall the exact year, but it was in the early to mid 80's -- one of the biggest blizzards on record for NE Wyoming. We had an "enclosed" patio out our front door at that time (no roof, but surrounded by the house and garage except for the gate), and my son had to dig a 10-foot tunnel to get out the front door. He also took pictures out of our double-car garage with the doors both open, and the only sky you could see was a little patch in the upper corner of one of the door openings; the rest was all snow above the doors. My wife left work too late in our 4x4 Jeep and got stuck a block from home. It was a few days before she could retrieve the Jeep. LOL In Wichita it was hot.

March 30, 2007 This was taken looking out my back door, across the chain link fence, at the neighbors house. This hit and by 1 in the afternoon, the streets were bladed and within 4 days I could see the grass on my lawn because it melted that quick. This was in Sheridan.
