Probably wasn't a good weekend to discuss wind. There were gusts of 53 mph in Riverton and 71 mph in Lander Sunday. Spring time is the windiest period in this area, but it's typically only for a day with the wind dying done in the evening. Relentless wind for days at a time, like other areas of the state, are rare for this area.

Finding a rental property is going to be your biggest task. I have a couple of my own and if I run an ad for one day in the paper, it typically yields 40 calls over the next few weeks.

There are two farmers markets. The downtown market I believe has run all year, moving into the Eagles Club over the winter months. They set up on a street down town every Wed.. The other market runs every Sat. beginning in Apr or May. Best meat would come from Clarks Meat House, in Riverton, or my favorite Wyoming Meats in Hudson which butchers local beef, pork, and lamb. A lady opened up Wy's first poultry processing facility north of Riverton last year, but they moved several weeks ago so I don't know the status of that. There's no local bakery, but Safeway, Smiths, and Walmart all have in store bakeries.

You'll have a pretty good view of the Wind River mountains to the south or the Owl Creek mountains to the north, but both are 25-30 miles away. Despite all the mountain ranges around this area, it doesn't get a lot of snow fall so a front wheel drive car will get you around just fine in the winter time. Generally if it's too bad for a front wheel drive car you really have no business being on the road even with a 4x4. On the subject of weather I think you'll like summers much better here

If your sense of humor is indicative of WY, I can't wait to arrive in Riverton!
