True, that is probably a factor...
New Hampshire was number one safest, I wonder what their population density is? I am sure more than ours...

There are 3 kinds of lies....

Lies...... Damn lies.... and statistics. :P

10 out of 10 people I just polled said there was no WAY NH was "safer" than Wyoming. Of course, they're all die-hard WY residents.

NH ranks 20 in pop. density.
Wyo is 49.

Wyo, like many rural areas has problems with property crimes, such as vandalism and petty theft. My guess is that is what brings the crime stats up.

It's surprising to see South Dakota was number 6. I watch the local news out of South Dakota from both time zones and they have been having a lot of homicides lately. More that they used to.

They probably tally in all crimes like DUIs and crimes like Benny said into the favtors. If they based solely on Violent crimes we would probably rank higher than we do, but base it on DUIs we would probably rank a lot lower on the scale.

It doesn't surprise me to see North Dakota was #1. It's to stinking cold and miserable in the winter and to hot and muggy in the summer to want to commit crimes. Plus if you did say rob a liquor store and fled away either on foot or by car they can still see you for miles making it easier to get a good description of you.

Criminals are lazy.
It is too difficult to live in Wyo,montana, and ND if you are lazy.
Places with high crime rates tend to have govts that cater to criminals and the lazy.
