Will be moving to GR/RS area by August. Need suggestions for storage unit locations to avoid, Any good contacts for finding 4 bdrm that takes pets (3).

What's the local feeling for the strength or potential contraction of the housing market over the next 3 years. We are interested in buying, but everything is overpriced, old, in need of serious renovation under $250k. We may rent if the feedback here might tell us if the O&G industry, other local market drivers are on the way to a lull or slowdown.

What's worse is the rental market is so limited on availability....

You're going to have a very hard time finding a rental that will take three pets unless you don't mind spending $1800 a month on rent.
The housing prices here are actually down and you can find very nice houses in need of no repair under $250,000, where did you get the idea that you can't? A quick search on realtor.com will show you this.

From what I have heard, the Oil and Gas industry is, at the moment, slowing down. I think Schlumberger laid off quite a few people...and where I work...we seem to get a couple Halliburton people each year. However, seems like housing construction is doing pretty good, from what it looks like, at least in RS. We have to rent an apartment, because we couldn't find any place that would take our cats, darned near impossible. I think there are lots of houses under 250...but at the same time...those are probably going to be in older parts of town.

I guess I should say that what we would expect for $250k, coming from NorColo. Yes, realtor.com does have listings, but everything is old, in need of renovating (carpet/flooring, paint, cabinetry/counters, bathroom fixts). On a teachers salary, hate the feeling of paying such a pretty penny, but feeling like the ROI is so substandard/outdated/. Guess its too bad a teacher cant get the OG wages. Anyone have some leads on OG company work in the back of house/paperwork arena?

No everything isn't old and in need of renovating. There are brand new homes for under $250,000. Maybe the limited selection is what is throwing you off?
