I'll be passing through the Cheyenne Area next month and am curious to know what notable landmarks would be worth checking out.

Thanks in advance.

Passing through ... as in driving through the area? on which highway(s)?

Would you care to mention any particular interests that you have?

museums, western history, rock climbing, historical sites ... or ?

Thanks for the response. To answer your questions: I'll be passing through via Rt 80 and I'd like to stop off and check out Cheyenne before heading south to Denver via Rt 25. I'm mostly interested in notable landmarks and scenic spots for picture taking.

"notable landmarks" ...

state museum, state capitol building, the railyards/train depot, museum at Cheyenne Frontier Park

"scenic spots" ...

West of Cheyenne ... Veedauwoo area. You can reach this county rec area off of Happy Jack Road, with several areas that give you access to the rocks/climbing area and views of the foothills of the area, or if you have the time ... take the Veedauwoo exit from I-80 leading to the Fed campground facility (you'll have to walk in a little bit from the campsites, but the rock formations are visible from there).

Access to the outdoor areas will be dependent upon the weather/storm activity and snowfall levels in the area. You may have a crystal clear blue sky sunshine day with strong shadows on the rock formations ... or it may be obscured and difficult to access.

Not sure how long you will be staying but for convenience the Historic Train Depot is right near 80. Across the street are a number of interesting shops and a few blocks north of there is the Wyoming State Museum, which is really cool.

Enjoy your stay!

BTW... the Train Depot has free maps to other cool places in that vicinity. Nice train museum as well.
