Hey Elk.................

Just got back home from having a little social gathering over at a neighbor's place about a mile away.
He just got home from a trip to CO this past week and routed himself back through Sheridan.
Decided to stay overnight and stopped into THE MINT BAR on Main Street for a couple of drinks before going to the motel...........The Holiday Lodge---which he really liked.

Very impressed................met some great locals (one of which noticed he was packin') ..... had a great discussion re guns, hunting, fishing and horses. He had dinner at Wyoming's Rib and Chop
House........said it was great food and service.

While at the Mint Bar he was told the story about the "movement" that was very popular back in the 1930's re forming a "new "state called "Absaroka", by combining portions of WY, MT & SD.
Unfortunately it obviously never got sufficient backing to become a reality... I think it would have been great It would have included approx the northern 1/3 or wyoming/// the western 1/4 of SD and an equal portion of S/E Montana.............Just think had it become reality you may have ended up being the local "lawman"...................Ketch ya later..........................

Glad he had a good trip and a wonderful stop. The Mint bar is kind of an icon around here. Through the years the local ranches have branded the walls of the Mint. It is one of the oldest establishments around here and still in the original building.

I've heard the story of the Tri-State gathering. I don't know how close they actually came.

The Holiday Lodge is a good place to stay. They have little bar-b-q grills out in front of each room. Just bring your charcoal. I have a friend that comes up here trout fishing, every year. He always stays there because then he can cook his own catch.

That Absaroka movement died as WWII loomed. When the war was over, no one rekindled it. I think there was a trivia question about it...

They recently banned smoking. Used to keep the yuppies out. End of an era.

Looking forward to visiting the Mint Bar in the future. I read a lot about it on-line.
