What would the commute between Casper and Douglas be like? Problems in the winter?
Thanks

some days you would get to work and some day you wouldn't get home and some winters maybe no problems at all

Most days of the year you can make it just fine, but that area gets SEVERE winters at times so use caution. If you decide to do the commute make this site your new best friend: WYDOT Travel Information Service (Cheyenne). I always check it before I leave during the winter.

Make a contingency plan at the other end. If you are at work and they close the road, the motels fill quickly and by the time you get off work the motels could be full.

Last winter I-25 was closed between Casper and Douglas about 12 times. The reason I know this is because we had to open a shelter each time it closed! The hotels in Douglas are permanently full with oil field workers. I know they're building a new one near the highway and hope it's done before winter. If you keep a close track on the weather and don't worry about some "white knuckle" drives, it wouldn't be a bad commute.

I have worked with people that do this for years. Most stayed with friends at either end. Best is to make a small travel bag and keep it in your car, include two changes of clothes. I only remember twice that the highway was closed two days in the last 20 or so years and those were because it blew back shut both times and they had intermitent closes and opens of it. Also keep your gas tank full and a survival kit in there with sleeping bag, food, etc just in case, this should never happen but it only takes once to make a miserable time of it.
