All police should wear those "Smokey the Bear" hats with the crown that looks like the end of a giant Phillips screwdriver.

The only question of attire should be deciding on what date to switch from your Bailey Straw to your Stetson felt.

December 1st is mandatory. November 1st optional. Full winter uniform.

I was never issued either a Bailey straw or a Stetson. Now, the LAPD navy blue I wear is sharp. As much as I like my Tony Lama boots, my black Bates duty boots are pretty darn comfortable, with wool socks are fairly warm. I was eyeing a new pair at Cabelas last week.

That was Police Department? I always looked at it this way. PD was a durable uniform that identity's Police. High Patrol was pure professionalism. Sheriff's Department takes on then local flavor. Just my opinion. This being Wyoming, with this states history, and the fact that the towns compete heavily in Western things, like, Most Western Town. I would think the local flavor would be Western atire.

The. only safety concern I see is footwear. They can buy comfortable, durable,, rubber soled, Western style boots. If its that much of a. concern, why don't they require $400, all terrain Air Jordan's. Seems they went half way.

The rest of the changes do not effect safety, but rather a style that is to the new sheriff's liking.

Nope, not a police officer.

There are plenty of rubber soled western boots. Comfort is key.

Western attire would be most apt. Boss man sets policy. I can see retiring and this being a good catalyst for turning in a badge. Not sure it is totally newsworthy.

We recently changed uniforms for the first time in 40 years. I like the changes. I really like the Carhartt jackets they issued us.

Ah hah! The plot thickens. Perhaps the good sheriff of Sublette County doesn't want to get on the bad side of our chief law enforcement officer, Eric Holder.

Eric Holder Asked Sheriff David Clarke Why He Was Wearing A Cowboy Hat

Quoted in part:

'“What’s up with the hat?” Holder asked Clarke during a meeting of sheriffs and police chiefs at the Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C...'

and

"In various media appearances, Clarke has criticized Holder for what he perceives as his anti-cop policies and rhetoric..."

Oh and I agree. It should be about comfort, safety and connecting with the locals. And the new guy does sound like "a tool."

Just my zero cents.
