I've lived in a lot of different places in my life, but for the last 12 years I've been a resident of this Great State of Wyoming. No compalints whatsoever, but one of the things my wife and I first noticed was the above average size of people. Anywhere from 2 year old children being as big as 6 year olds we've seen in other parts of the country and the women here seem to be more closer to 6 feet tall than shorter than 5 foot 6 inches and shorter. I know there are short people here, but it just seems Wyoming grows some rather tall women. What is the reason?

Or perhaps the tall ones can see over the snow drifts to get back in the house?

Seriously though, rural Wyo women tend to eat better than their urban counterparts. Some grow tall and some grow wide.

Suppose the healthy eating could be the answer. I always thought it might be the older north european bloodlines that brought on such heights. I'd say that at least half the women I know are close to 6 feet tall with a few being even taller and the rest are in the 5'3" to 5'10" range with the minor of them being shorter. My poor wife has to look up to everybody, but her saying is always a good one: God made her perfect on the first go round and didn't have add anymore to improve on perfection.

Sounds a little like my dad's old saying (that I now repeat): "God only made a few perfect heads but covered all the rest with hair."

I never noticed Wyoming women being taller, but I once owned a shoe store and learned that Gillette's ladies on average have larger feet than what's typical. (We joked that it was nature's way to keep them from toppling over in the wind.) I bought the store from a small chain of shoe stores based in Rapid City, and they warned me about ordering too many small sizes of women's shoes. They said that in Rapid City it was just the opposite, that they couldn't sell the larger sizes. It could have been because the average age in Gillette was younger than normal, but for whatever reason, they were right.

That's funny. No wonder so many people have hair.
