Oops sorry. I was thinking of between Cheyenne and Laramie where the first accident was.

I guess the main reason for that route would have been to shave 15 miles off the route.

Yeah, that was the reason. It supposedly trimmed 19 miles from the Hwy 30 route, and the feds figured that was worth dealing with a little more wind and snow.

Thanks, for that information. The most ideal solution would be to build a four lane I-80 Alternative route along Hwy 30. Then when the weather is bad, just close down the high route, and send everybody around.

The Lincoln Highway map shows a lot of very interesting changes in the route in the last hundred years.

That happens a lot in Wyoming. Several rimes I've went home on the old road when the Interstate was closed. It seems the old road took advantage of shelter. Out if the wind, down in the valley.. Seldom gets drifts like the interstate does.
