Hwy 14 is a fine route across the Big Horns. All those spots are nice areas.

You really can't go wrong once you are up there. It's alllll good, IMO.

Years ago my dad and me camped at Sibley Lake. Others along 16, west of Buffalo Doyle or Tie Hack are my favorites.

Keep an eye on WYODOT on the computer on the non-interstate cameras.
US 14 Antelope Butte Camera is in the Big Horns, and you can get an idea of the conditions in the Big Horns.
US 16 Big Horn County line, runs along the base of the Big Horns

Definately take 14 and 14a. Nice steams, lakes, meadows. Not crowded, but plan for snow on the ground and possibly from the sky....

Thermopolis is close enough for a 'warm-up' retreat. Or lower elevation escape.

If you haven't already, I would recommend downloading the Google Earth application onto your computer. From here, you can view a slew of photographs uploaded via Panoramio. This allows you to view a great deal of the backcountry from established trails, as well as other areas deep in the wilderness.

Check out this link to South Fork Campground. It has a dedicated tent area that is across a foot bridge from the car camping area. Good views, fishing and hiking... and a lodge/bar/restaurant across the highway from the turn-in to the campground.

Tie Flume is an okay campgournd. So is Prune Creek although it is close to the highway... but things settle down at night.

There really aren't many spots of low elevation in the Big Horns.
