Have you guys seen this very interesting article? Mostly about Wyoming, in the New Yorker, of all places. A fascinating story:
Citizen Khan - The New Yorker

Tamara Louie or as I remember him being called "Hamburger Louie " is very well spoken of in the Sheridan community. He was before my time but I attended school with his children and several are still in the community. The article was very interesting.

I can vaguely remember Hamburger Louie's from my early teen years in Sheridan. I remember a debate about whether the new 4 U Drive Inn burgers were better than Louie's burgers. My dad believed in the Louie burger. That's all the controversy I was aware of.

Uh-oh!

Be careful!
The New Yorker made Oregon it's darling and IMHO that played a huge part in screwing up the state.

Hate to see that happen to Wyoming.

Your state full of hipsters, yuppies, and east coasters.

YUCK

You didn't read the article, did you?

It was actually a fairly interesting article about little known(outside of Wyoming) piece of history.

A long but great story, thanks for posting it. Afghan tamales in Wyoming, who knew. I never had one growing up there, never tasted one until I moved away to Texas and down here all I have seen are beef tamales, no chicken.

That would have been a great trivia question for //www.city-data.com/forum/wyomi...a-renamed.html

Yeah, I've spent lots of time in Wyoming, starting when I was a kid growing up in Colorado in the '50s and continuing to this day, and this story was new to me.

Likely, I wouldn't have even noticed or been surprised by tamales, in Sheridan or anywhere else, being from Colorado with tamales one of the foods that's always been around.

I must say that this story of Tamale/Hamburger Louie, and the history of the political issues talked about in the article, to me is quintessential Wyoming.

I grew up in Wyoming 1951 to 1971, (Lovell, Riverton, Worland, Lander, Laramie, Rock Springs) left when I was 20, I don't recall ever seeing a Mexican food restaurant during that time. Wasn't till I returned years later for a visit that we found Mexican food restaurants in Wyoming. We lived next door to a nice hispanic family for a while in Rock Springs and the mother there taught my Mom how to make tacos. We loved them!

The vast majority of restaurants in Rock Springs are Mexican or Chinese. You can barely get a steak there.
