...and the 'snowbirds' (RV's) are just now STARTING thier spring-migration north (into Cody) for the summer.

Given the 'excitement' over upcoming solar-eclipse, I don't imagine parking-spaces will last very long...

...funny how Wallmart has boxed-off 1/4 of thier parking-spot (western-side of the lot) with lawn/garden-supplies, already...lol

Gas is $2.47 gallon avg price in town as of yesterday. (85 octane) I imagine ('Red-Barn' ?) Wapiti station is a little bit cheaper ? ?

Anybody reading this (tourists) would do well to remember to top-off your tanks in Cody BEFORE heading towards Jellystone, because from Pahaska TP on-into and through the park...the prices are astronomical...if for no other reason...'because they can'....lol

I used to have many businesses scattered around Wyoming.
I couldnt find the talent I needed in Wyoming so I hired from other states. Over 15 years I brought in 158 people. ALL but 2 left after 1-2 years.
All the complaints were the same.
1. Cant make friends.
2. No one accepts us
3. Winters are miserable.
4. No one will play with my kids at school.
so on and so forth. It was never about money or affordable housing.

I don't have kids so the fourth one didn't apply to me and I'm okay with cold winters, but the first two were absolutely the case for me. While I didn't experience outright hostility, those came in the form of virtually no invites to do anything. I like outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking, I would attempt to befriend people on that basis, got nowhere. The clannish mentality was strong. Mind you I moved there from Montana, I wasn't exactly the Californian or person from "back east" so many were so paranoid about ruining their way of life.

The other factors that finally did me in were the extremes in politics (see my last sentence on the previous paragraph), the every man for himself mentality, and the slow pace of life that truly was laziness from a lot of people. And I lived in Wyoming eight years. The money or affordable housing were not issues.

Default Will WY Welcome Me?

These recent comments are making me so sad. For the past three years, I have been anticipating retiring to Buffalo in 2020. All of my research suggests that this is an ideal location for me. I don't require fine dining, fancy shopping, exotic vacations or professional sporting/cultural events to be happy. I prefer my own company and that of my dog(s) to crowds of strangers. I'll be satisfied with decent internet service and UPS delivery. I want to swim my daily laps at the YMCA pool, volunteer at the St. Francis Animal Shelter, demonstrate hand spinning in front of the Mountain Meadow Wool Mill, and help out at the Buffalo Senior Center.

I'm a decent, honest, educated, self-reliant person. I don't bother anyone. I am generally friendly and eventually make friends. People say I have a great sense of humor and am smart. I won't have a ton of cash but should be able to live a modest life in a small house in town.

Would I not be made to feel welcome in Buffalo?

I can't say whether you would be welcome there or not. I'm just giving my experience. There are things that I do miss about the state but it's not the people so much.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I do appreciate the feedback. I know that ElkHunter was from Sheridan. Are there any other C-D members from the Buffalo/Sheridan area who might relate their personal experiences with the town?

gee kids have said all the neighbors have stop by, when I been there hauling stuff they even show up to help unload. A week ago we got there on a Saturday and there was a invite to a community dinner at the fire station for a 60 year 4-H party....sometimes one has to step forward....
