We will be traveling from Denver to the town of Story this summer, where we have a hotel reservation. Can anyone tell me how far off the interstate (25) Story is located? Will it take longer than 5 minutes to get to the town of Story?

I am wondering if we shouldn't drive straight to Sheridan instead since it is just for one night and we head right out the next morning towards Red Lodge via Billings.

Thanks

Interstate 25 ends at the town of Buffalo and turns into I 90 and Story is about 20 miles from Buffalo...

You go up into the Mountain slightly.. It is a Mountain town. A lot of well off people live in that area mostly, and I think gas is pretty expensive...

If you travel about 15 more miles you can make it to Sheridan and there are lots of places to stay Motel 6, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, and local motels as well... and gas may be more reasonable....

If you are stopping in Story to see the Wagon Box sites and Historical places, it might be nice to stay up there, but other than that it is expensive I think....

Best of luck to you... Let me know if you have any more questions...

If you're planning to arrive at night, I'd say just go on up to Sheridan or stop in Buffalo. Story is off the Interstate about 10 minutes or so.

Agreed on the well-to-do aspect of Story. It's a teeny tiny town, and the houses there are very nice and most have amazing landscaping. I'd swing through during the day and then continue on to Sheridan.
*However* if your hotel reservation in Story is at a B&B or similar place, I'd keep the res, because I can imagine a Story B&B would be very nice.

Thanks for the input . It sounds like a neat town to drive through. We will be arriving there about 6-7PM as long as we don't have any big flight delay. It should still be light, I believe.

I always second guess my decisions. I appreciate your input. I will think this out a little more but probably keep the res.

Kristyinwy, interestingly enugh, lodging prices in Story were better than in most places we will be staying when we get to Yellowstone/Tetons!

Thanks again!

Oh definitely anything is cheaper than Jackson or Yellowstone, that is some of the most expensive lodging in the whole state of Wyoming....

I meant expensive as far as Northeastern Wyoming aka Sheridan and Johnson county...

Kristy, youll Love Story Between Buffalo and Sheridan. Its about 17 miles past Buffalo at the Piney Creek Exit Then about 12 miles more. There is a lil Motel there and prob a Bed and Breakfast. Wagon Box Inn is a great place to eat and has Cabins and the Tunnel Inn is excellent> Enjoy

Google Maps shows Story to be exactly 7 miles after taking the Piney Creek exit at I-90. That seems about right.
