Short version: Do rental companies in Wyoming not carry convertibles? I've been to 3 different websites and cannot find a single rental companies carrying convertibles in Casper, Cheyenne, or Jackson Hole.

Long version: After 30 years in Alaska it's time to get out. Coming down in mid-May to do some research into where we would like to relocate to. Still would like to have some winter (thus Wyoming is on our radar), just don't need to have 9 months of it. We would like to rent a vehicle one way to canvas Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Eastern Washington to do a little preliminary research but the wife would really want to do all this driving in a convertible, seeing as how they are not very common in Alaska for obvious reasons. Is the lack of availability I am finding for them in Wyoming pretty much the same reason you don't find them in AK?

No demand, no supply?

How about reversing the trip, start in WA where you'll probably have better luck finding a convert. and finish in Wyo?

I feel like a complete idiot for not having considered that.

there's little demand for roadsters here in Wyoming for very good reasons ...

limited seasonal use, even for hardcore top down drivers.

But more significantly, they're not fun here.

I found out the hard way with my acquisition of an Alfa 2-ltr spider.

After having had the use of or owned a series of MB roadsters for decades in Colorado, and enjoyed many a pleasant drive along the front range or up into the mountains, so had many fond memories of top down driving miles ...

I did an engine overhaul in my "new" toy and eagerly looked forward to driving it around Wyoming.

But much to my dismay, I discovered that driving a roadster was unpleasant here. Windy conditions create a lot of dust/dirt/debris which makes the top down driving unpleasant, even with wrap-around sunglasses. Combine that with the heat and I found myself putting the top back up very soon after taking it down. I've not driven it with the top down in Wyoming for years. The top comes down when I'm in Estes Park or like locations in the Colorado mountains. But the top goes back up when I head back to Wyoming.

So, even if you find a convertible to rent in another state, you may also find that driving it top down in Wyoming to be less than a pleasure for your travels.

How ironic...I just happened to walk by a convertible PT-cruiser, 89' Toyota Supra AND a late-80's VW Rabbit GTI yesterday, while in Cody...

...Ironic because I distinctly remember saying to myself that it's strange I never really 'notice' convertibles anymore. Clearly it's not because they don't exist...but rather because unless it's a classic Mustang, T-Bird, Corvette or Camaro rag-top...it never really registers on my brain...

...but yesterday I saw three...AND remembered each and every one of them...

...strange...
