Thank you! I'm trying to remain calm - and when I do say yes - any nervous energy will be used in figuring out the move - I'll have to get a house with a fenced yard for the pups - either rent or purchase - nothing fancy - but sturdy and with a basement for any kind of severe weather warnings - a garage too to protect car from hail.... Outside of that - I like the idea of living right in town by where I'll work so less worries commuting in crazy weather if it should creep up - I'm starting to get excited again.... One thing is I don't care for is driving for long periods of time in wide open spaces - I rarely do - but when I do it's probably a mild form of agoraphobia? I just get anxious/fearful because I have lived at least 15 years with foothills and mountains - the ocean - large forests - always something there - when it's empty - I get kinda sketchy …. thinking I'll get used to it.... I love the idea of being involved in my community if even just a little bit - as one person mentioned Phoenix has people hibernate in AC for at least 6 months - no one talks to neighbors or anyone really - and the rest of the time it's dark outside or winter holidays fill up your time - But just being around a smaller town once again will be familiar and fun - and will force me to break into new routines/hobbies and a new way of living I would imagine - not radical but compared to the desert here it sounds better there than this isolative way of living in a big city here!

You will never die of loneliness in the State of Chaos aka: Commiefornicate.

No privacy and wherever you go there will always be someone in front of you and behind you. Always a line for you to wait in and no wide open spaces especially when you spend most of your time looking for a parking space.

Same thing as a motorist driving tailgating galore if traffic is moving but most of the time you will be in gridlock with others. I always get tailgaters at 5:00 AM on weekdays so now I have moved closer to leaving around 3:30 AM to avoid them crazy drivers.

People don't talk to each other here neither (neighbors) as they keep to themselves.

Might as well live rural and live a peaceful life.
Or like you are headed for a smaller town.

Good morning everyone.... As far as anyone knows - does Wheatland have these things - or are some of these things bigger city things to drive to? Pet Boarding, Pet Grooming and a domestic pet Vet, Eyeglass/doctor place, Dentist, regular old doctor, place to get Honda vehicle maintenance, a place for a haircut/style, pharmacy, seasonal farmer's market, hardware store? And are there any people that you can hire to help you with lawn/yard maintenance and snow removal in winter - or do you manage alone with a shovel or snow blower/thrower? As always thank you! I know I have to fly up soon and will figure it out better then - but in the mean time wondered... and open to recommendations too...

Yes to pet boarding and grooming. Yes on vets. Yes to eye doctors and places to get glasses. The same for dentists and doctors. They even get specialists in on a regular basis. I don't know about Honda repair, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Several places cut and style hair. A couple pharmacies. Not a "farmer's market" like they have in urban, suburban places, but often fresh, local produce is available to purchase.

Yep, you can hire lawn work or snow removal done, or get by on your own. I'm over 60 have a low maintenance yard (by choice) and shovel my own driveway, sidewalk, and parking area. But a couple neighbors love their snowblowers. Personal choice.

I lived north of Wheatland and worked in town for years and drove a PT Cruiser or Ford Escort.

Auto repair options in town extremely limited.

"Fat Boys" tire company does general automotive repair and maintenance, so could likely do most routine oil change interval service on your Honda.

But for anything more involved than the basic oil/filter, and simple brake pad replacement type work, you'll likely want to head to Cheyenne. Far more choices and Honda experienced repair shops in Cheyenne than Wheatland.

Ok thank you for this - I am getting ready to say yes to this job offer tomorrow & all these little things on my mind were overloading it so this is very helpful - I live near Paradise Valley here in the land of amenities - like 9 grocery stories within 2 miles LOL..... so preparing for what I will need to travel a bit for is helpful!

Maybe you would know this question answer? If I buy or rent a home that has a woodburner for heat - where do I buy wood and who would I hire to clean the chimney of creosote etc? If you know - thank you in advance!

Oh my goodness thank you so much! Very helpful information.... I asked in my other answer about buying wood that is split so I can stack it for a wood burner for heat if my new place needs that - do you know if that is easy to come by? Also is there a business for cleaning chimneys or making sure they are safe every year? Those can get messed up with creosote I think but I do love a wood burner for heat or at least I did in the past when I lived in the UP of Michigan!

Wheatland has a lot of things available right around there - fantastic news....

Google this: Facebook Wheatland Wyoming classifieds.

On the left side of the page, you will see a space that says “search this group”. Enter the word “chimney”. Scroll down and note that you have one less thing to worry about.

Typically, a small town newspaper will have seasonal ads for this sort of thing. You’ll find this out when you get there.

I didn’t see anything for firewood.

You got responses to your Wheater questions. I know the large animal vet's. I'm not a pet person, so
don't know about pets, but assume they are covered as well. There is an optometrist-I think she is very good. Eye surgeon-have to go to Cheyenne. Dentists-two, but one seldom takes new patients. Which is OK, the other one is just as good. Dental surgery-Cheyenne. 2 men's barbers, and at least a half-dozen women's hairstylists. Shopko and South St Pharmacy. South St is one block from hospital. There seem to be tons of people doing lawn service in Wheatland, from high school kids on up.

Snow removal might be different. I know people in town, and a kid from down the street plows their walks on his four-wheeler. He doesn't know them-he just does it to be helpful (and maybe likes riding the wheeler anyway)-this kind of thing is not unusual. People with the snowblowers will also sometimes do their neighbors walks. Half the time, by the time you finish breakfast, have coffee, the walks and streets will be melted. Just snow on the lawn. Chinooks are an interesting weather feature-go to bed with snow all over, wake up in morning and it's gone. I hear some townies get frustrated because Wheatland doesn't plow the streets. I kinda wondered if the town had a snowplow. They have a big new one, and apparently want to keep it that way-which I can go for totally. They do plow the main streets and the block around the hospital. Other streets are sorta on their own.

Pellets are the way to go over wood. Most people have pellet stoves instead. Easier and less cleanup,
but they use electric for the blower. We have pellet stove fireplace with glass front and fake logs-use it more for ambiance than heat supplement. Next best thing to gas fireplace.

Hondas have to go to Cheyenne for dealership service. 2 brothers have dealerships in Wheatland-one is Ford-the other is Chev/GM/Dodge/Ram/Jeep. Like most ranch people, I do mostly my own mechanic'ing-been doing my own oil changes since I was 17. But if you are not so disposed, can probably go local for oil changes and Cheyenne for repairs. It could be worse. I have Germans, and have to go all the way to northern Colorado. What you do is make a trip: get car serviced, also have a list: Walmart? Home Depot? Dollar Tree? Sportsman's? Murdoch's? Chick-Fil-A! Get other stuff done, so cost to drive down is worth it. Otherwise 2 hardware stores in town and coop store has hardware stuff, too.

If you do wind up moving here, I'm sure people you work with will help you get familiarized. Arizona seems to be popular for people here to move to-so you might be getting even a little bit. Wheatland has become big for ex-Greenies. They are all over the place anymore. Started noticing this about nine years ago-went to get plates for new truck. Both women in County Clerk's office were from Colorado. Get VIN inspection-sheriff deputy from Colorado Springs. Last week at Ford dealer for service, service writer from Colorado, parts guy from Colorado. I think they are tired of the increasing BS down there, and the cost of living is spiraling out of control, however, they seem to be the type that fits right in, so no aerial spraying has been necessary yet.

Lmao - hahaha! I needed this - so funny …. and lots of cool information too! I have been looking at houses online and I have seen a couple with pellet stoves - so thanks for that information... There is only ONE rental by way of the sites like Zillow… 1300 a month and you pay for about everything utility wise and are to keep the lawn neat and tidy in summer as well.... Juggling a sale of a house here and buying one there - I thought I'd keep a six month buffer or a year by renting - only wish there were more options! If that one goes.... I'm stuck with a pretty big issue - a place to live! I'll talk with a local realty group there and see if they have any inside info today..... Again thank you for the info and about doing a once in a while road trip for some bigger store items - I used to do that in the UP of Michigan = and even in California to some extent - thanks!
