Can anyone give us the scoop on the Evanston area. We've contacted the Chamber -- very nice people -- but we'd also like to hear from somebody in that general area. How are the schools, economy, etc.? We found a comparison web site that answer lots of questions statistically (with 2000 census info). We are afraid that it may be a little outdated. We are coming from Alaska not CA if that helps

If you are a tradesman, it'll help. The town consists of abt 9 motels, 2 truckstops - 1 with a restaurant and 1 with a subway. A WalMart (with a subway), 3 groceries (including WalMart), 9 gas stations or so (including 2 mavericks), 5 or 20 bars, can't remember which, 2 mexican restaurants (same name/owner), a couple of "sandwich-cafes", a couple of antique stores, 1 cable company, poor cell-service, a library (kinda small), A McDonalds, An Arby's, A Wendy's, total of 3 subways and a Taco-Time built into a gas station. Most jobs are hard to find, part-time and low pay. A Carbon-Fiber Plant, a Cardboard-Box plant, a golf-course that recently went 18-holes, a transient population, a shortage in housing, 1 newspaper twice weekly for 75cents whether anything happened or not, a cop for every 8 cars (less than it used to be), a short-list of churches, 1 small bowling alley, access to the Uinta Mountains 25 miles south, 85 miles down the hill to Salt Lake City. In short, it's an interstate-border town with a lot of poor folks barely ... I mean, barely squeaking by but also some artsy crowds and some money here and there. Depends on who you are and how you do it as to whether you can make it here. If you're familiar with southern Wyoming, then, you're familiar with Evanston. Anything else I can help you with, Cowboy?
