I am contemplating between two routes going from Sioux Falls, SD area to Las Vegas and the routes after Rawlins is the same.

The first route is go through eastern Nebraska via US 81 and US 30 (from Columbus to Grand Island) and taking I-80 straight through Nebraska, Wyoming, and Utah to Salt Lake City. I have been on this route a couple times before and know what to expect. I anticipate driving through Wyoming should be easygoing regarding traffic and less mountainous terrain to contend with compared to Colorado.

The second route is to take I-90 to Rapid City, SD and go to Hot Springs on SD 79 and take US 18 west through Lusk and meet up with I-25. I would take I-25 to Casper and head down to Rawlins on WY 220 and US 287. After that, then take I-80 from Rawlins to Salt Lake City.

The question that I have is what is the terrain and the roads like between Casper and Rawlins. Are there any steep grades and narrow, windy roads? Just curious.

The objective is to get from Point A to Point B efficiently. Both routes are comparable in mileage, but the second route shaves off an hour of driving time (according to doing a google map on the route). Any insight regarding the roads is welcomed.

To clarify myself, I was wondering what the stretch from Casper to Rawlins is like. Is there a lot of twists and turns and steep grades? Is it mountainous? Is the road in good condition or rough? Any insights are welcomed.
