And of course it would be winterized. But, what would happen to things like a flat screen TV or a refrigerator, or even the drywall? Is it feasible to cut the power and gas off without doing damages to a SFR, if you are going to leave it empty for six months? Does this create specific problems for homeowners insurance? Are there work arounds?

Nothing happens. Depends on your elevation
We lived at the end of the road - 45 miles southwest of Cody. On cold summer mornings, we'd throw a couple of sticks in the wood stove to take the chill off. We never heated the house in the summer and we didn't have a/c either. Didn't have any drywall then or even now.
