Hi, we will be moving to Sheridan maybe this summer. Tried to look up pros and cons but the only responses I found were from 2008. We're leaving Prescott AZ because we want a smaller town to retire to. We have friends in Sheridan and everything there appeals to us. Can anyone be kind enough to give me your feelings about this city? Thanks.

Just my opinion. Sheridan seems to have two classes. Wealthy and poor. The divide seems to be increasing. Not that Sheridan is a bad place. I really dislike pulling a horse trailer up that side of the mountain. Those switchbacks get old quick!

I'm close to Sheridan. It's okay.

No actual good restaurants. Some nice shops. If you need to fly, you either pay the price and work with the limited local offering, or you travel a couple hours to get to a larger airport. That can be a problem in the winter.

Some healthcare. Still, many find they have to travel to Billings, Rapid, or Casper for some specialists and procedures. That can be difficult in the winter.

Housing is overpriced. I'm reading about some problems with quality in new construction. I have to agree with "Wytempest;" there is an increasingly two class society here of poor and well-to-do.

The WYO Theater is exceptional.

I suppose my biggest complaint would be the increased prevalence of smelly, noisy recreation toys in the mountains. It's pretty crowded. We no longer bother unless we have the time to get far into the wilderness areas.

I took a road trip through Wyoming a few months ago and noticed the prevalence of 'side by sides' everywhere we biked and hiked in the Bighorn Mountains. Being from the Sierra Mountain range area, I was surprised by how accessible most of the Bighorns seemed to be to off-road vehicles.

Sheridan and Buffalo were super cute towns. The real estate is pricey for sure and Lake Desmet was crowded when we tried to visit. Not sure if there are other water recreation lakes or rivers in that area? It's a beautiful location there with the Bighorns nearby.

Sheridan was good to me for the 18 yrs I was associated with having to be there at least once / week, often for weeks at a time (VA center for my disabled father + business)

A friend lived in Ranchester and Dayton and worked at Sheridan College for 20 yrs (Retired in 2015). A work colleague from WA took a position at the College and has been there since ~2005

You can search Elkhunter's threads for good info, (tho getting dated).

Property values keep racheting as with any desireable place and influx of Covid escapees / WFH is adding pressures. But LT QoL in Sheridan is quite good. I was in Prescott during Dec and very surprised at the growth / change. Sheridan avails very easy escapes to nice recreation in all directions. Billings (2 hrs) is available for airport and bulk shopping trips.

Sheridan is 80 miles from my house in Gillette, and is my closest Toyota dealer. Gillette has two daily flights from/to Denver, and Sheridan has one.

StealthRabbit - Yes, Precott and other three cities forming the "quad" have exploded with people mostly from CA trying to escape everything there (us included). We have been here 6 years and although I still love it and have met many friends, it is way too big and is getting bigger and bigger every year with the growing pains that come with that. Water is a big issue there now. The local government will not control development so it is time to leave.
