We are considering moving to Laramie. Can anyone tell me about big game hunting in that area? specifically Elk. Land access, tag availability, success rates, etc...
Thanks!

There's very good hunting in the Medicine Bow Forest about 30 miles to the west. It's all public land and there's also a wilderness area (no vehicles.) I can't speak on the tag availability---but I know my friends who hunt there always come out with something....

There are many good areas west of laramie. It's mostly national forest. There used to be "any elk areas", if there still is. You can shoot any elk. Just make sure it is a elk. Also there is great deer hunting, with moose and antelope in there.
There is also a desease called CWD chronic wasting desease. It is in the deer and elk herds. Just read up on this desease and hunt accordingly. The state will test the animal for you. You need to not eat the meat, until tested is best. If you into walking with a back pack. Hunt the wilderness. That is where the really big heads are aplenty for sure!
Also in those mountains are Partridge,Grouse,Chucker,Snowshoe Hare and Cottontail Rabbit, Red Squirrel. Gold prospecting, Dredging, Buried treasure.
Mountain Lion, Bobcat, Coyote, and I have seen red fox. Great fishing too.
