Well this is my first post so bear with me. I'm considering a 3 month assignment in Jackson. It would start 2nd week of April. My husband and 2 children ages 1 & 3 are traveling with me. In Dec of 04 we sold our house in St Thomas US Virgin Islands, and have been traveling around the US. We've been in So Fl where I grew up, Eastern NC, Reno NV, and currently in Mesa AZ. Personally a little to big for us. We love the out doors But would want to be prepared. What's the weather like Apr-July. What kind of clothing would I need for the little ones. Here in AZ it's the land of plenty with 2nd hand stores on every corner. In reading some of the other posts, I'm assuming life on an island has somewhat prepared me for what big city people find challenging. On the island if they don't have it Miami FL is 1500 miles by plane so you just learn to improvise or live wihtout. Wyoming is a place on our list of places we want to go. The idea of being so close to the National parks is very appealing. Anyway I've run on quite enough so, If anyone has advise stories or tips please write back. Oh what is the apartment market like in Jackson, obviously for short term 3 month furnished. Thanks again in advance. Travelinlotz

From my experience in Jackson, the weather can get a bit chilly...especially at night. You do know that Jackson is a very expensive place to live? I've heard rentals are hard to come by....dont know first hand.

What type of work do you do? I've heard of alot of nurses going to Jackson to work travel assignments, and for them the travel agency will provide them housing.

Weather in WY: June, July & Winter are the 3 seasons
Housing is extremely expensive if available at all in Jackson. Peobably would need to live in Alpine or Driggs.
I would suggest Cody instead.
We have lived in both Alpine & Cody.

How far is Cody from Jackson? Seems like it might be a long commute?

Commuting from Cody to Jackson might work if you had an all-weather IFR known icing equipped turbine helicopter to go the 110 miles over the top of the numerous mountain ridges between the two.

Otherwise, there's simply no convenient road system to get from one to the other ... it'd make a daily commute from San Diego to Los Angeles look conveniently short in time and distance ... and that's in good weather only. April and May are still snowy months in the region ....

On a more realistic note, you might find a short-term monthy condo rental in Jackson ($$$$$). Since it's a resort area still in high season, the entire area is expensive for housing. What you may save in renting housing 20-40 miles away may be well offset by the difficulties of the winter commute to work.
