Want out of the city. Looking for small towns(pop. less than 1,000). How affordable is the housing? What is the job market like? Also school info. Elementry through HighSchool?!

There are many small towns with a population of about 1000 or less, but I think what you will find in most of them is that jobs are pretty much non-existent, due mainly to the size of the town. I am sure there are some exceptions, but I think you will find this to be true in most small towns.

As for schools, they can vary greatly from one town to another, so you would need to select a particular town, or even several towns, and ask about each of them individually.

Same goes for housing. This will vary depending upon proximity to other (generally larger) towns, and to available job markets. For example, due to the "energy boom" in the Gillette area, and the resulting lack of available housing, I am certain that housing in neighboring small towns has become relatively expensive. There has been quite a bit of discussion about that area on this forum.

Perhaps you could refine your question by giving more specifics about what you are looking for, such as the area you are looking in, and/or the type of work you are looking to find. This would help the good folks on this forum to point you in the right direction.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
-Joe

Could you give us a little to go on?

How affordable is the housing? Well, depends on the size, acreage and such. Depends on the town. Job market? Again, where would you like to be? Mountains? High desert? Rolling plains? Do you want to commute to a nearby town (not necessarily big, just more opportunities)?

I saw you posted on the Montana forum also - so I'll ask the same questions here. What do you want in a town? Wants? Needs? How far from a larger town/city? What kind of jobs? WY and MT can be quite different and in some area are much alike so if you can be more specific that will help all of us to help you.
