Please do not underestimate the winters. It gets cold, very very cold. The wind never stops blowing and it snows sideways. Cheyenne is a fantastic place to live if you can take all of the weather. The best people I have ever been around and the schools are perfect. Business is slow right now as it is everywhere but all of the pluses sure outweigh the negatives. I just always felt bad when we would get a new family move in from the southern US (especially Texas) and love UNTIL winter hit in September and they would cry all the way until May. They never lasted too long.

One, we hardly ever have a white Christmas. Just a cold windy one. The wind here is really bad and makes winter and life miserable. For the most part not having a 4x4 will be okay, but there are some winter storms (winter is from October to April just fyi) that you'll be wanting one. Traffic is low, crime is low which is always good and taxes are low for housing and such. Not a lot of opportunity here, I would def. be concerned about jobs- recession has really hit here. Inadequate health care here and school district sucks. Just really research this area, and perhaps take a trip- really make sure this is where you want to live before you come out and get stuck. And people here are not really that friendly, grant you do have good people here. But I have seen a lot of snobby mean people but perhaps that is just my experience.

DO NOT under estimate the WIND! It is brutal, more so in winter(LONG winters) but it blows to the point where you find that you just don't want to go outside. It will prevent you from enjoying outdoor activities. It was posted here that it blows for 6 months................I would say more like 8!

I really like Cheyenne and the people but CAN NOT take the wind anymore. I am a avid outdoorsman and have had many days of fishing & hunting ruined by the WIND.

We will have many beautiful sunshiny days that make you want to go out for a walk or a hike............good luck with that! NOT going to happen.

I suggest you take a week or so and come to Cheyenne in the winter. We can tell you about the wind but it is something you just have to experience to truly know what we are talking about. It has forced MANY folks to say good bye to Cheyenne.

To be fair, it's not just Cheyenne that gets this kind of wind. Any of the Rocky Mtn. states where you are in a prairie environment(as well as the Dakota's, Nebraska, etc.)you will experience this. Cheyenne is THE windiest city in the country. It comes off of the Front Range of the Rockies and sadly there is NOTHING that gets in it's way to slow it down.

I am not bashing or trying to be negative about Cheyenne, I am however telling it to you straight.

Helpful hint.............keep hold of your car door when opening and NEVER open both front car doors at the same time!!!!
