The same amount that will fall at ElkHunters Cabin after taking off the plow on Tuesday, earlier this week. So far we have 3 inches and it's still falling.

Yeah, Rescue-Puppy-3 wouldn't even go outside until 10:00 this morning. I think we max'ed out at 5 inches, but it is mostly melted by now.

Okay, let's get serious. Surprisingly, the Highway Patrol wasn't Wyoming's first state-wide police agency. What agency was, when, and why was it formed?

Okay, hint # 1: Some states (like Florida) still have one, but for a different reason...

Good guess..., but nope.

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1865 prevents the military (or any other militia) from enforcing civil law in the US. It's one of the few restrictions on the use of power the US government actually follows.

The agency I'm thinking of engaged in pure civil (read: civilian criminal) law enforcement.

No horses were involved, either.

Are you referring to the Department of Law Enforcement? It was created to enforce prohibition in Wyoming. The department was plagued with corruption throughout its existence and was closed in 1933 months before prohibition was repealed by the 21st Amendment.

Exactly correct!

The Wyoming Department of Law Enforcement had a rather inglorious 12-year history of fighting illegal alcohol and was replaced by the Wyoming Highway Patrol in 1933. To the best of my knowledge, none of the initial seven WHP employees, including its first commander, came from WDLE.

Florida's FDLE is primarily an anti-narcotics unit. (Go figure. Drugs in Florida?)

You're up!

If anyone wishes to learn more about prohibition enforcement in Wyoming I recommended this article by Professor Phil Roberts of the University of Wyoming:

Ok, next question:

In 1914 two major league baseball teams offered to play an October exhibition game in Cheyenne. Can you name the two teams?

Extra credit: what did the teams demand in return?

Sorry, those were not the teams.

I will give a hint.
